Corsica & Sardinia

Ferries are available from Nice Port taking you straight to the breathtaking islands of Corsica (French) and Sardinia (Italian). Despite being islands of choice for many of the world’s rich and famous, many resorts remain unspoilt and affordable.

The varied coastline is dotted with sailing ports, seaside resorts, vast sandy beaches and unspoiled creeks that contrast with the green inland vegetation and forests. The crystal-clear waters are some of the cleanest in the Mediterranean and off the beaten track you can find some of the best, un-crowded beaches in the world with sparkly turquoise waters and sand of every shade from white to gold.

The French Riviera

The South of France is the perfect holiday destination all year round. Nice is known as the capital of the French Riviera and offers the very rare possibility of going skiing in the Alps in the morning and spending the afternoon on a beautiful Mediterranean beach.

Due to the very impressive public transport system in Nice you can reach most destinations by bus, train or tram in a timely and efficient manner. If you are feeling more active you can always travel by foot, bike or even roller blades!!

Below are just some of our favourite things to do in and around the French Riviera:

Nice

A typical day in Nice can range from sunbathing on a Mediterranean beach, Roller blading down the chic Promenade des Anglais, walking in the hills, watching a ballet at the Opera, soaking in the Jazz at the famous Nice Jazz Festival, taking a Riviera boat trip and much, much more! Rich in history and culture you’ll never be stuck for something to do, anytime of year.

Vieux Nice

(The Old Town) is our favourite place in Nice and sometimes feels like you have gone back in time as much of the original architecture is still present. The Old Town is situated between the beach, the port and the town centre. The quality of life is fantastic, you can buy fresh fish, flowers and fruit and veg from the amazing local markets throughout the week. The Old Town is full of windy pedestrian roads awash with art shops and cafés where you can just sit and watch the world go by.

Monte Carlo & Monaco (about 20 mins away)

Monaco is undoubtedly most famous for the Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco, which dates from 1911 and is the world’s most glamorous race. The 3.328km circuit takes drivers from the port, through a right-hand bend and uphill along avenue d’Ostende to place du Casino, there the track bombs downhill around a hairpin and two sharp rights into the tunnel and back to the port. The race is watched by 150,000 spectators from stands around the port and on place du Casino. The cheapest spot to watch it from is avenue de la Porte Neuve.

Other things to do in Monaco: take a stroll to Cap d’Ail or a dip in ‘the pool to be seen in’ (Stade Nautique Rainier III), have a flutter in the very exclusive Monte Carlo Casino, enjoy a night at the Opera or shop till you drop around Place du Casino. The dress code in the Casino is fairly strict but it’s worth visiting to experience the fantastic cars and boats attracted to the area. If you have the money, take a visit to Bar & Boeuf—the chef here is Ducasse—one of France’s most famous chefs. In le Sporting complex you will find jimmy'z club where you may even spot a few celebrities.

The Mountains & Ski Resorts (1-1.5 hours away)

A bus runs from the Gare Routière (Bus Station) to Isola 2000 which is the nearest ski resort to our apartment. You can buy a bargain return coach trip and one-day ski pass for around 35 euros. There are also weekend deals available.

Other places such as Castellane, Parc Naturel du Verdon, Digne-Les-Bains among many more offer activities all year round such as: rafting, canyoning, hot-dogging, water-rambling, sparkly green lakes, natural springs, mountains, tons of cultural attractions and much, much more.

Antibes & Juan Les Pins

This area is a short distance from Nice and provides beautiful sandy beaches and amazing views across the Côte d’Azur. Antibes boasts unique narrow streets, scenic cafés and restaurants, an attractive harbour and has charmed many famous artists through time, in particular it is closely linked with Picasso. In between Juan Les Pins and Antibes there are some really great beaches with plenty of places to do water sports.

Cannes

Cannes is most loved for it wealth, fashion and of course the Festival International du Film. The festival is held over 10 days in May and attracts rich and famous from around the world. Other attractions are the suburb shops and restaurants, the wide range of boat trips and the fabulous sandy beaches lined with beautiful bronzed bodies.

Italy

A few minutes from Nice and you arrive in Bella Italia! Some places well worth exploring are San Remo, which is just a short bus trip away, or the gorgeous and quaint Porto Fino. Porto Fino and the neighbouring Santa Margarita can be reached by car, bus, train or even better, by boat from Nice Port. There are many beautiful seaside stops between Nice and Genoa and you can even get a train from Nice to Milan for just 15 euros (£10)
